We started with most people making comments about the temperature, but to be fair it had dropped a little overnight. But so it should; we were heading further South and it was showing a nice 7.5 on the dash. Talk about a huge shift from 30 degrees for us Northern Waikato folk.
Some headed up over the Crown range road to Arrowtown for breakfast. We headed into Wanaka for breakfast then to the National Transport & Toy Museum by the Wanaka Airport for a look around. What a cool place so much old stuff to look at and reminisce about. My first car, parents and grandparents cars … a great nostalgic place.
We headed for the Crown Range road stopping at the Cardrona Distillery for a look around, it turned into an impromptu sampling. They are making some nice stuff; Cardrona single malt whisky was a favourite, but space being a issue and the $150 for a bottle made us think twice! A few glasses of water later and we headed back on our way.
The Crown Range road… WOW it didn’t disappoint, and that view at the top is always amazing. Plans are already under way for a return trip when we are in Cromwell in few days time. Lunch was at a favourite of everyone’s, The Fork and Tap in Arrowtown. We Then headed for our next favourite, The Remarkable Sweet shop on the Main Street in Arrowtown for a look of course, and maybe a few snacks!
Queenstown was next but we just passed through missing the ride out to Glenorchy today. We will save that for when we are in Cromwell as that’s our next 2 night stopover. We finally arrived in Te Anau around 4.30pm and found our accommodation for the next 2 nights.
After a quick trip to the local supermarket and bottle store, a couple of quiets and a snack dinner, we called it a night. A well deserved rest after hitting nearly 2500km
