Today was one of the bigger days about 530km with lots to see. We hit the road just after 8am. We smashed out the first 150km and decided at Franz Josef it was time for coffee. Well most of us got coffee one person took a couple of attempts but his kept arriving with lumpy almond milk!
Knights point was the next stop for a couple of photos and a reminisce of our last stop here in the rain with a panicked van driver that was nearly out of diesel. It couldn’t have been a better day this time with clear blue sky’s and an amazing view. The van had plenty of diesel this time so went through without any hassles this time.
We headed for Port Jackson just out of Haast which is about 50km for what everyone said was the best fish n chips; and wow it didn’t disappoint. The local fisheries officer was their doing his job well. Some young lads left with a huge fine having been caught with some incredibly small Crayfish & Pauaua.
Fuel in Haast was a must and with the temperature climbing, one of the lads wanted to remove some layers in the Pass, about here we were thinking really?? We’ve only just got going! Well that soon changed to WOW when we found a random pull off area which had some of the best sights. Lots of photos taken, and Skynet got his drone out for a play.
From here we headed off for a non stop ride to Wanaka stopping only for a photo at the lake Hawea lookout. This is honestly some of the best scenery we have seen. Simply stunning. Moving on, we found the Oakridge resort, unpacked and headed off to The Cardrona Hotel for din dins. After a well earnt beer, great burger back to the hotel we went for a spa and bed!
