Far South Tour 2016 Day 12

Monday 21st of March

Methven to Hanmer Springs

Ron organised with the local fire department to open their place so some of the guys could watch the Moto GP, so cheers very much to Ron and the Methven Fire Department.

Another 7 left about the same time (7am) so they could go over Arthur’s Pass and through Lewis Pass into Hanmer.

2 more chose to have their tyres changed in Methven. It wasn’t the best of ideas as they didn’t leave until midday….and one of the tyres got damaged and unfortunately they didn’t have a replacement.

I just cruised along, stopped in Oxford, then took an hour at Ashley Gorge. I stopped again at Amberly for lunch and by that time the 3 behind me were only a half hour behind.

They passed me with about 30km to go and I followed them into Hanmer Springs.

We are staying at the Greenslade Chalets which are a little up the hill from town, but it’s a great spot and still isn’t far from town.

Some of us went to the Springs for a swim for about an hour. It was the best thing after a hot day on the bikes.

We had dinner at the Monteiths bar ($20 for a 500 gram steak meal) some had more than a few beers as they had a little more time in town than we did.
