Far South Tour 2014 – Day 7
I’ll start by saying that we saw some familiar faces yesterday at the Bluff ferry terminal. A groups of riders returning from Stewart Island and heading for the Eagle Hotel in Bluff. A great bunch of riders who we enjoyed on our ride last year. Really great to see you all!
We had a great day today on Stewart Island. Some of us went out fishing with “squidgy” and some of dragged ourselves out of bed about 9.30 and had coffees and French toast.
After breakfast a few of us went out on some island scooters to explore.
I forgot mention that we named Deb’s our gang leader during our Mt Cook, Dunedin ride. She led most of the way through the ride and really enjoyed being in front and setting the pace. The lads gave her the title after her proving herself as more than capable of leading. She also got on the scooters at Stewart Island and led some of the way around the Island (but like any good leader she let Kieren lead sometimes too.
Sorry about the photos being sideways, they were transfered from Kieren’s phone.
We had our ferry crossing at 3.30 so after successful fishing and sight seeing we headed to the ferry. The crossing was a little calmer than yesterday so there was more than one person sleeping on the ride back to the Mainland.
Haha try and turn your computer over for that one.
We got into Bluff at 4.30 and were on the road to Te Anau by 5pm. Fish, spuds and salad for dinner in the van so I wasn’t hanging around.
The wind picked up the closer we got to Te Anau, but the roads were pretty clear and other than a bit of sun strike, we all made into Te Anau by 7.30
We had a communal dinner once we got to the Te Anau YHA and after dinner we presented Barry with a surprise Birthday cake to celebrate, what he thought was a quiet birthday. The cake is lovely!!!!!
Well that’s all from us tonight, hope all is well with everyone reading. Good night from Te Anau!
