Far South Tour 2014 – Day 6

Far South Tour 2014 -Day 6

Started in Dunedin getting tyres fitted to a KTM1190 and fixing a battery problem on a Ducatai ST4. We left Dunner’s about 10am and headed for Balclutha. Four of us were staying on the mainland with the rest of us heading for Stewart Island, but I think we all came through the Catlins.

Catlins road has some great scenery and some better corners, however as you get closer to Invercargill it straightens out and the traffic increases a lot.

We rocked into Invercargill and some of us went costume shopping for Greymouth which.e others went to Hayes Hammer Hardware which has everything anyone would ever need. Including Burt Munroes original bike (or so they say), plus a replica with a Ducati engine in it.

Some went to find oysters in Invercargill while others headed to Bluff for some sightseeing.

We boarded the ferry to Stewart Island at 5pm and had A great trip out. No one was sick and a few even had a little shut eye.

We we got onto the island at 6.05 and headed for the South Seas Hotel, booked in and headed for the bar. It was cranking!  May have something to do with being the only bar in town, or it could have something to do with the meanest feed thus far on the tour. Man it was yummy, ribeye steak and chocolate moose cake for me. (Not together of course)

Tomorrow we head for Te Anau, but not before fishing and sightseeing on the Island. We cross back over to the mainland at 3.30 and ride up to Te Anau the same day.

Good to see some of last years riders at the ferry this afternoon. Great to hear you are having a great tour also.

Catch you all tomorrow, from Stewart Island, Good night!
