Far South Tour 2014 – Day 4

After a rowdy night of listening to some women at the local wine bar wailing like a cat until midnight and then some other women yelling to be let into Stumpers and the chiller switching on and off, we were all up at 7am and had riders briefing at 8am.

We set off for Arthur’s Pass, through the Booze Bus (which we all passed), on a perfect morning. The sun was shining, the wind was light and until Arthur’s Pass, the traffic was really light.

I stopped at the pass to sight see and meet a few Kea’s and I could’nt have found a better model! He climbed on the roof of the van and then when Kieren stopped, he jumped down to take a closer look at the bike.

We stopped at Arthur’s Pass for breakfast and the weather was still good. Had a lovely eggs benedict while Les tried out the pies and we were back on the road by 10am.

As we came down off the pass it clouded over and by Springfield we were in crappy misty rain (if you can call it that).

As we carried on the crap stayed with us and when we stopped for lunch in Geraldine, it cleared long enough to eat before it closed back in through Fairlie.

by the 400km I was starting to feel the trip. We had a lot of traffic coming the other way and I kept getting stuck behind the tourists. We stopped for fuel at Lake Tekapo and I got a V and turned the IPod up (loud).

The trip got real fast going up the lake to Mt Cook. Kieren is thinking he may run out before Twizel, which will get him the Monkey of the Day for his bike.

So we are all safe and sound in Mt Cook, having a drink before dinner and chatting about today’s ride. Dunedin tomorrow through Clyde, Ranfurly and Middlemarch.
