Far South Tour 2014 – Day 2
we rocked into Kaikoura at midnight, after our delayed ferry crossing and after a quick catch up we all headed to bed pretty quick.
We woke to this, this morning and after a quick riders briefing, we were on the road. (Yes that is snow on the Kaikoura hills)
We took the Inland Kaikoura Road through to Waiau for breakfast. Great road if you have never done it before, and really we’ll sign posted if you are heading for the West Coast.
Back onto the road, we headed for Lewis Pass. (Insert smiley face) I stopped in a section and waited for a few of the riders to come around the corner.
We all stopped at Reefton for a burger, pie and thick shake at the local burger bar. Hhhhmmmmmmmm yummy.
On the road again we headed for Stillwater and turned towards the Arthurs Pass Highway through Lake Brunner. Man the roads down here are just amazing. You get off the main track and the roads are smooth and fast. My beast of a support van was humming along……so much so I may have a speed camera ticket to pay when I get home. (Stupid old school van in Kumara)
We got to Stumpers Bar in Hokitika after all passing the booze bus at the Junction roundabout, at about 4pm. And are now all hanging out the back with a few drinks and a few nibbles.
So tomorrow is the Wild Food Festival. It is the 25th anniversary this year and the town is fulling up fast with tourists. We are maybe going for a ride tomorrow before heading into the festival. Bye from Hokitika!!!
