Far South Tour 2014 – Day 11
Well we knew it was coming……the bad weather hit us leaving Greymouth. Strong gusts of wind with the odd downpour thrown in for good measure.
My day started well, a few of do the lads were a little slow coming down with their luggage, so I had to turn around just out of town and go back. I don’t who is liable for this one, I suppose we will find out in the morning and see who gets the monkey for it. Haha
Stopped at the Pancakes Rocks for a coffee and a walk. With the weather being so crappy, the waves were up and we got treated to the blowholes finest showing.
We we carried onto Westport for lunch, meanwhile some of us kept going to try and get out of the weather. Westport was actually pretty dry but that soon changed when we headed out for Murchison and the Buller Gorge.
Peter came with me in the van again today to let his sister have another ride since her bike is still in the shop at Wellington. What a day to let her ride! He truly felt guilty about putting her out in this weather, but she managed well and she, Rob and Tim were the first to arrive at the Nelson YHA. Kieren got in about 2pm, but we have only just had the last of the group arrive at 6pm, after deciding to ride up to Dunsten.
All are here at the YHA safe and sound, all be it, a little water logged. Sorry for the lack of photos, neither Pete or I were keen on leaving the van. We head for Picton tomorrow, and already the concept of doing the Takaka Hill has been scrubbed…..unless we wake to a lovely Nelson day. Bye for now, blog again tomorrow, hopefully before we start celebrating our final night on tour AND St Patricks Day!
